Údarás na Gaeltachta’s aim is to foster and support thriving and sustainable Gaeltacht communities where Irish is the main community language. Enterprise development is at the heart of our Strategy as we seek to develop the Gaeltacht as a place where the spirit of entrepreneurship is strongly promoted and entrepreneurs would wish to set up, locate and grow a business.

Údarás na Gaeltachta must carefully consider and assess the impact of any new enterprise project on the Irish language. A project may have a beneficial, neutral or negative impact on the language in the area in which it is based / to be based. All grant applicants will be required to agree to implement a language plan, as set out below, as a condition of funding.

Support and advice will be available to the applicant from Údarás na Gaeltachta to assist in meeting language conditions or in implementing a tailor-made language plan. A language plan sets out a number of practical steps to encourage the use of Irish in the business depending on the type of business, the markets being targeted, the needs of employees and the dialogue with the local community. A typical language plan will include some or all of the following elements:

• Business Name, Branding
• Internal and External Signage
• Marketing and Publicity Materials / Website & Social-Media
• Recruitment policy
• Corporate social responsibility policy

The language plan is an opportunity to help the applicant’s business to create/develop its own identity, to illustrate an understanding of its corporate and social responsibilities to the local community in which the business is based / is to be located and to take advantage of the goodwill that exists for the Irish language. Financial and other supports are available from Údarás to support the implementation of the language plan.

***Working Capital
Working capital is a measure of the short-term liquidity of a business. It is the capital of a business which is used in its day-to-day trading operations, calculated as the Current Assets minus the Current Liabilities. The amount of Working Capital required will be calculated based on the maximum cash deficit / requirement over 36 months per the Projected Monthly Cashflow to be completed in Appendix A in this application form.

Freedom of Information
Údarás na Gaeltachta will not release any information received as part of this application unless it is required by law, including the Freedom of Information Act 2014. Section 38 of the FOI Act sets out the procedure to be followed in certain cases where a decision to release information in a record has the potential to affect the interests of a third party. Section 38 requires Údarás na Gaeltachta to notify the affected third parties that it is proposed to grant the request in the public interest and that the FOI body will consider any submissions from the third parties before deciding whether to grant or refuse a request.
