Údarás na Gaeltachta’s Apprenticeship Scheme open for applications

Applications are currently being accepted for Údarás na Gaeltachta’s Apprenticeship Scheme (Scéim na bPrintíseach). The organisation is offering more than 40 apprenticeship scholarships, each valued at over €2,000, to support individuals who wish to obtain a recognised qualification.

This apprenticeship scholarship scheme supports candidates from Gaeltacht areas who are fluent Irish speakers, enabling them to pursue a qualification in one of the trades recognised by SOLAS.

Two categories of apprenticeships are available under the scheme:
• Craft Apprenticeships
• New Generation Apprenticeships

Aisling Nic Aoidh, Training and Education Executive with Údarás na Gaeltachta said:

“There is currently a shortage of tradespeople, while the demand for these practical skills remains. We are providing support for people in the Gaeltacht through Scéim na bPrintíseach to encourage them to achieve qualifications in various trades. This will guarantee, not only a career for those who undertake the apprenticeships, but also the provision of services through Irish in the Gaeltacht.”

“The three years I spent learning my trade were very worthwhile, and the company was very happy with my work. Now that I’m fully qualified, I work for a local business three days a week, and I’m self-employed for the other two days. I would highly recommend Scéim na bPrintsíeach as it allowed me to develop practical skills while also furthering my education with the university, and it will stand to me for life” said Óigí Ó Sé, Carpenter who qualified with support from Údarás na Gaeltachta’s Apprenticeship Scheme.

 

This round is targeted at Gaeltacht applicants, who are fluent Irish speakers and who have already completed their post-primary education.

The closing date for applications is 18 September 2026.
