The three Aran Islands sit off the western coast of Ireland, in Galway’s harbour: Inis Mór, Inis Meáin agus Inis Oírr. Inis Mór is the largest island (31km2, 762 people) and is the furtherst west. Inis Oírr is the smallest island (8km2, 281 people) and is the furthest east. Inis Meáin sits in the middle at 9 km2 and with a population of 183.
According to the 2016 Census, 57.4% of the community (3 years and over) on these three islands speaks Irish on a daily basis.
