Údarás na Gaeltachta’s staff complement to increase for the first time in a decade

Six permanent positions announced in finance, property and administration

Údarás na Gaeltachta’s workforce is to increase for the first time in over a decade as 6 permanent positions are announced by the organisation today.  The positions will be in the areas of finance, property and administration sections at Higher Executive Officer and Executive Officer levels.  This recruitment adds four new permanent posts to Údarás na Gaeltachta’s staff complement and it will enhance the organisation’s broad remit to develop a vibrant, successful and sustainable Gaeltacht community and economy.

With the support and approval of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, and following guidelines from the Commission for Public Service Appointments in association with the Public Appointments Service the positions announced today are as follows:

 

Public Procurement and Payments Officer

Assistant Accountant

Grant Payments Officer

To assist with the organisation’s Finance and Public Procurement function.

 

Corporate Services Officer

To assist with the organisation’s corporate administration.

 

Project and Health & Safety Manager

Quantity Surveyor

To assist with the organisation’s property and construction function.

 

Speaking about the announcement, Anna Ní Ghallachair, Chairperson of the Board of Údarás na Gaeltachta said:

“On behalf of the Board I am pleased to welcome the announcement of these permanent positions: it is a vote of confidence in the work and strategy of Údarás na Gaeltachta.  It will be an opportunity to reverse staff reductions made some years ago and to enable the organisation to take on more projects for the benefit of the Gaeltacht.  The positions will also help to implement the organisation’s vision that the Gaeltacht is a viable and sustainable community in which Irish is the predominant language with a vibrant economy, making best use of all of its resources and with access to an excellent quality of life.”

 

Mícheál Ó hÉanaigh, Údarás na Gaeltachta’s CEO, spoke about today’s significant announcement:

“This announcement is wonderful news for the organisation and for the Gaeltacht community as we enhance our efforts to promote the Gaeltacht and the people living therein, implement language planning, further strengthen enterprise and employment and increase community development.   This expansion will assist staff in implementing our new strategy which will be published shortly and strengthen activities in finance, administration and health & safety further. It also indicates our wish to add to Údarás na Gaeltachta’s resources, in order to begin to turn the tide and address the challenges in providing the necessary services for the Gaeltacht community, since the organisation’s budgets and staffing numbers were cut some years ago.”
