Údarás na Gaeltachta welcomes significant investment in Gaeltacht island infrastructure

Údarás na Gaeltachta warmly welcomes the announcement of significant funding approved for capital works on Ireland’s Gaeltacht islands. This money will be directed towards essential infrastructure projects on the Gaeltacht islands.

Among the key projects to be funded are:

County Donegal:
– On Arranmore, improvements will be made to various roads, including €195,000 for the An Baile Ard road
– On Tory Island, funding will be provided for roads and access to the pier

County Galway:

– On Inis Mór, €286,380 will be invested in the main harbour road of Kilronan

– On Inis Meáin, €20,250 will be provided for coastal protection and safety projects at the harbour

A spokesperson from Údarás na Gaeltachta said:

“We greatly welcome this investment in the Gaeltacht islands. These projects will help improve the quality of life for islanders and support the long-term viability of island communities. This demonstrates the commitment to improving and maintaining essential infrastructure in Gaeltacht areas, especially in the most remote locations.”

This funding is part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting vibrant and sustainable island communities, as outlined in the national islands policy ‘Our Living Islands’.
