gteic@Inis Meáin is officially opened
The next digital hub in the gteic network will be launched on the middle of the three islands of Árainn. The official opening of gteic@Inis Meáin will taken place on Inis Meáin today (30.04.2022) making it one of the 28 gteic hubs opened or on the verge of opening in the Gaeltacht.
Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Gaeltacht and Sport Jack Chambers T.D., will officially open the digital hub that will form part of the Gaeltacht Digital Network – a network of over 30 high speed broadband innovation and digital hubs being developed by Údarás na Gaeltachta in locations throughout the Gaeltacht.
The digital hub is home to 5 co-sharing work spaces and is based in the Carcair na Leacht Community Centre, which also enjoyed its official opening today. Users of gteic@Inis Meáin can avail of the facilities already available in the building such as a meeting rooms, a canteen, a reception as well as other shared spaces.
The facility will cater to the community and businesses and will provide remote working opportunities on the island. gteic@Inis Meáin will be managed on behalf of Údarás na Gaeltachta by Comhlacht Forbartha Inis Meáin Teo. Entrepreneurs in various sectors can be facilitated from the hub and it will be available for training and research and development projects.
Speaking at the opening of the facility, Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Gaeltacht and Sport Jack Chambers T.D. said:
“This digital hub will be a wonderful resource for Inis Meáin. It will provide opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs on the island and also encourage people to consider returning to the island or starting a company here. A development like this is very timely given the new possibilities that have emerged for remote working.”
Údarás na Gaeltachta Chief Executive Officer Mícheál Ó hÉanaigh also added:
“We at very pleased to officially open the next hub in the gteic Gaeltacht digital network. gteic@Inis Meáin will greatly enhance community life and business on the island and remote working opportunities will encourage the Gaeltacht Diaspora to return home and experience a different pace of life. This Gaeltacht digital network, which is being developed throughout the Gaeltacht, will empower communities on Gaeltacht islands.”
gteic@Inis Meáin is one of 6 digital hubs already developed by Údarás na Gaeltachta in the Galway Gaeltacht, joining the likes of gteic@Na Forbacha, gteic@An Spidéal, gteic@An Cheathrú Rua, gteic@Carna, gteic@Ceantar na nOileán, with the hopes of launching gteic@Corr na Móna and gteic@Inis Mór in the near future.
