Pádraig Ó hAoláin, Chief Executive of Údarás na Gaeltachta congratulated Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, Gaoth Dobhair and An Cheathrú Rua today on winning first prize at the SMEDIA awards which were held in the Tripod in Dublin last Tuesday (27th March).
The SMEDIA awards are aimed at third leved students in the the media industry. There are up to 25 categories in total – short film, television and radio journalism, photography, editor of the year, film script, etc.
There was an Irish language category for the first time this year – Television Production in Irish – sponsored by Údarás na Gaeltachta and TG4. Five nominees were shortlisted – three from the WIT/Nemeton course and two from Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, OÉ, Gaillimh.
Siúlach Scéalach, a documentary, recorded in Gaoth Dobhair and produced by students from Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge in Gaoth Dobhair and An Cheathrú Rua, won first prize. TG4 star, Daithí Ó Sé, presented the award.
