Údarás na Gaeltachta regrets the decision of Silcotec Teo to cease production in An Cheathrú Rua before the end of the year.

This decision has been taken by the company due to keen competition in the market, especially from low cost countries in the eastern world.

Ongoing talks are taking place between Údarás na Gaeltachta and Silcotec Teo, and every effort will be made to help the company increase sales potential and retain employees remaining in the business, on a secure basis. Údarás will also intensify its efforts to attract employment to the area.

Arrangements will be made with employees that are let go to register with Údarás if they are interested in other employment opportunities in the area. Information will also be provided in relation to assistance available for attending training courses in order to improve their employment skills.
