Dáithí Ó Gallchobhair from Fáilte Ireland expanded on this theme, and the specific importance which Fáilte Ireland attaches to tourism in the Gaeltacht and on Ireland’s islands. Aoife Porter from Bua Media spoke about the best way to market the unique character of the Gaeltacht and Dave Ward from the Commissioners for Irish Lights gave an insight into the importance of the lighthouses of the peninsula and the way in could they be harnessed to enhance the tourism product of North Mayo.

Local representatives Seán Carey and Gerry Coyle thanked all present for their role in delivering the project.

The new tourism development will focus on the culture and heritage of the Mayo Gaeltacht, with specific reference to the strong connection with the sea and seafaring. The strong craft tradition of the Gaeltacht will also be showcased and there will be an emphasis on the unique ecological and environmental characteristics of the Iorras area.
