The Chief Executive of Údarás na Gaeltachta, Tomás Ó Síocháin launched a Report on the implementation of the LEADER Programme 2014-2022, which was administered by Údarás na Gaeltachta at an event in gteic@Gaoth Dobhair on Wednesday 01 May and, at the same event, launched the new LEADER Programme (2023-2027).
The Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) acts as the Local Action Group (LAG) in County Donegal in the delivery of the LEADER Programme. Údarás na Gaeltachta is one of the four LEADER implementing partners in the County – the three other partners are Inishowen Development Partnership (IDP), Donegal Local Development CLG (DLDC) and Comhar na nOileán CTR.
There were 63 projects approved under the Údarás na Gaeltachta LEADER Programme for the period 2014-2022 to 41 project promoters which included many voluntary groups, private and community initiatives and small and medium-sized enterprises. The projects approved were aimed at improving living standards, facilities and economic opportunities for the benefit of the local community under the framework of the Donegal Local Development Strategy.
Speaking at the launch, Tomás Ó Síocháin said that the implementation of the LEADER Programme 2014 – 2022 in the Donegal Gaeltacht over the period was a central feature of Údarás na Gaeltacht’s local development activities.
“The LEADER programme has enabled Údarás to work with and provide necessary additional support for important projects in the Donegal Gaeltacht community and to strengthen its work in collaboration with communities and project promoters. The work was very much a collaboration with Donegal Local Community Development Committee, Donegal County Council, Comhar na Oileán CTR, Donegal Local Development CLG (DLDC) and the Inishowen Development Partnership (IDP) and various other stakeholders, in its implementation. The LEADER programme added significant additional value to the development activities of Údarás na Gaeltachta in the Gaeltacht”.
The speakers thanked all stakeholders involved in the delivery of the 2014-2022 and LEADER programme and wished the new programme, which is now open for applications, every success.
