New Course Designed to develop Digital Skills through the medium of Irish
A new course has been designed by Údarás na Gaeltachta and Munster Technological University to meet the needs of those working through Irish who wish to develop their digital skills. The programme will develop digital literacy, cybersecurity awareness and confidence in using emerging technologies.
The programme aims to provide digital skills through Irish in the Gaeltacht, supporting the delivery of high-quality, modern and effective public services in Gaeltacht areas by improving digital skills of participants, helping them to integrate artificial intelligence into administrative tasks and to adapt confidently to emerging workplace technologies.
This training programme will introduce participants to practical tools and workflows using artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on administrative work and the public sector.

By bringing MTU’s expertise in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence together with Údarás na Gaeltachta’s strong regional focus, this programme will equip participants with practical, real-world skills to use AI securely, responsibly and effectively in their everyday work. The course moves beyond awareness to build confidence, improve efficiency and support a workforce that is better prepared to adapt to emerging technologies.“

Mary Uí Choileáin, founder of DeisAI and a former Head of QA and Software Releases, with nearly two decades of experience at the intersection of technology, operations and customer experience, has collaborated with MTU in the development of this course. A fluent Irish speaker based in the Muscraí Gaeltacht, she is passionate about advancing the Irish language in the digital space.
The application deadline for this free course is the 11th of September. There will be in-person sessions at Campas Íosagáin on the 18th of September, with a further two half-day hybrid sessions on the 28th of September and the 9th of October. The final full day session will take place on the 2nd of November. The course is open to anyone who is comfortable working through Irish and who wishes to improve their skills in digital technologies, cybersecurity and AI.
