National Development Plan

Údarás na Gaeltachta welcomes the provision in the National Development Plan for the organisation as well as aspects of the plan concerning infrastructural projects which will effect the Gaeltacht in the 6 year period 2007-2013.

The most significant aspects of the plan regarding the Gaeltacht are:

  • the development of a harbour at Ros a’Mhíl
  • a substantial provision for the development of harbours and services for the islands
  • the new road planned for Connemara
  • the strong support for a rural development programme which includes LEADER and the provision of broadband for rural areas including Gaeltacht areas in the CLÁR region
  • the development of roads which would facilitate access to Co. Donegal

We also welcome the committment to prepare a 20 year plan for the Irish language as this is first year that such a provision was made in the National Development Plan.
