A meeting of the Connacht / Laighean Region Committee was held in Óstán Oileán Acla in Acaill on 30 September 2008. The committee met with a delegation from Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla where employment on the island and the current state of the Monastery project was discussed.

With regard to employment, the committee was informed that every effort was being made by Údarás to find a substitute project for Teagmháil Acla which closed at the beginning of the year. In addition, Údarás will continue to support businesses in other sectors with local advantage.

An tÚdarás was proactive in encouraging local parties to develop a range of projects and services on the old Acaill Monastery site at Bun an Churraigh. With the re-establishment of Comharchumann Forbartha Acla Teo, they are confident that the legal steps pertaining to the transfer of land would be taken before long.

At the meeting, grants were approved for projects under the Coastal Communities Assistance Scheme and the Rural Social Schemes. In addition, assistance was approved for Global Material Recycling to examine the opportunities regarding the establishment of an electronic products recycling business in Baile Ghib, Co. Meath.
