At a meeting of the Board of Údarás na Gaeltachta was held in the offices of Fhoras Chultúr Uladh in Gleann Cholm Cille co. Donegal today (30 May).
The Údarás reviewed the organisations policy regarding the Gaeltacht Islands at the meeting and the Bord accepted this at the meeting. The Islands Policy focuses on developing schemes and supporting initiatives to encourage employment and enterprise and its promotion on the Gaeltacht Islands.
At the meeting the board was made aware of the €2 million budget now being spent on operating the organisational grant aid scheme for the co-operatives and community based groups. In addition a review will be carried out by Údarás, in association with ICOS, the national umbrella for co-operatives, on the rules of established co-operatives in order to bring them up to date. A new executive handbook and training guide will be provided and a training workshop for co-operative managers and assistant managers has already commenced.
