Encouraging the spirit of Enterprise in the Donegal Gaeltacht

Pádraig Ó hAoláin, Chief Executive of Údarás na Gaeltachta, presented awards to the winners of Údarás na Gaeltachta’s Enterprise Competition for schools in Donegal 2007- 2008, at a function held in Ionad Pádraig, Dobhar, 30 April 2008.

This post-primary competition is run by Údarás na Gaeltachta on an annual basis and is aimed at attracting and encouraging more young people into business. Speaking at the presentations, Pádraig Ó hAoláin, Chief Executive of Údarás na Gaeltachta, said “this competition is designed to encourage the spirit of enterprise and develop a greater understanding amongst secondary students in what it means to start your business. We view this competition as something of a pre-enterprise development courseand we hope that it will encourage some of the participants to start their own businesses in the future”. The winners of Enterprise Competition were:

First Prize: Gairmscoil Chú Uladh, Béal an Átha Mhóir, An Ghaeltacht Lár

Pobalscoil na Rosann were presented with the second prize of €500 for their project Folkleabhar and Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair and Pobalscoil Chloich Chionnaola shared the third prize, each receiving €200, for their respective projects Beo agus Bríomhar and Díogras le Díol. Alan Ó Baoid, Údarás na Gaeltachta, thanked both teachers and students for the tremendous response to the competition and for the high standard of entries from the six participating schools in the 2007 -2008 competition.
