Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo has announced details of projects to receive funding under the Arts Development Scheme 2008. This scheme is directed at projects being steered by artists, on collaborative practices and on events in all aspects of native and contemporary art. €220,000 has been granted this year to 31 projects throughout the Gaeltacht.

Amongst the 31 projects to receive funding were 10 new applicants. Speaking about the scheme, Louis de Paor, director of Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo said:

“Artists have an important role to play in Gaeltacht life and indeed Gaeltacht artists have an important role to play in the contribution to art in this country. This support will ensure that art is used to its full potential to enhance the social, cultural and economic life of the Gaeltacht. The amount of arts projects in the Gaeltacht has increased considerably since the establishment of this partnership between Údarás na Gaeltachta and The Arts Council 10 years ago. The results of this partnership are apparent again this year in studios, theatres, class rooms and in small village halls in the Gaeltacht”

Amongst the applications for which support was granted were four musical, two literature, fourteen visual art, seven drama (two street drama) and three interdisciplinary projects.

Ealaín na Gaeltachta will be announcing this scheme again before year end.
