Composites Technology Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTRM) and Composites Testing Laboratory (CTL Tástáil Teo) of Ireland have entered into an agreement to collaborate in commercialising composites testing in Asia.

With this agreement, a new Joint Venture (JV) Company, Composites Testing Laboratory Asia Sdn Bhd (CTLA) has been set up to undertake commercial composites testing. The new company will be operating out of CTRM facilities in Batu Berendam, Melaka.

According to Datuk Rosdi Mahmud, Chief Executive Officer of CTRM, CTLAwill provide a fast, flexible, cost competitive and highest quality of testing services to its clients. It is imperative for the company to offer a competitive cost compared to other testing labs in Europe and Asia.

He adds that the composites testing market is growing in this region. This is due to the fact that major aircraft manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing and even Bombardier are sub-contracting composites manufacturing jobs to this region. The company is targeted to achieve revenue of approximately RM30million over 5 years of its operation.

Managing Director of CTL, Mr. Mike Naylor, said that “the partnership between CTL and CTRM will enable the new company, CTLAto offer a fully-accredited composites testing service to the Asian market, covering material qualification, generation of design allowable data and eventually element and full structural testing”

The new company started operating on 2nd September 2010 after it received the ISO 17025 accreditation.
