Connacht/Laighean regional committee

The Connacht/Laighean Region Committee held a meeting in an tÚdarás’ new offices in Béal an Mhuirthead on the 30th January 2007.

An informative visit was paid to the various services housed in the New Services Centre in Béal an Mhuirthead – County Council Library and Offices, facilities for the Courts Service, Ionad Ealaíona Iorrais agus Údarás na Gaeltachta’s Regional Office and business centre.

Assistance for six various projects was approved at the meeting. These included:

  • Micro Múnlaí na hÉireann Teo., Indreabhán who are undertaking a research and development programme (RTI) to develop high quality miniature moulds for the medical sector.
  • Sónta Teo., a film production company located in Loch Con Aortha, Cill Chiaráin which is expanding its services and creating three new jobs.
  • Brian Mac an Mháistir who is establishing an engineering services business in Acaill.
  • A research and development grant for Ionad Forbartha Gnó Teo. or Westbic, Galway, was approved over a pilot period of three years to encourage innovation and enterprise in the business sector in the Mayo Gaeltacht. Mayo County Council and the Western Development Commission will also fund this scheme.

It was announced at the meeting that the establishment of a new community structure in Conamara Thiar that will represent the various community committees which are active in those regions will go ahead.

The next Regional Committee meeting will be held in Carna on the 2nd March 2007
