Co-operatives and Community-based Companies will hold their annual conference in Óstán na Páirce, An Spidéal tomorrow (Thursday 7th December) at 2.00 i.n.

The programme will be as follows:

Co-operatives/Community-based companies – a new era 2007 – 2010

Pádraig Ó hAoláin, Chief Executive Údarás na Gaeltachta

Developing Local Tourism

Liam Ó Cuinneagáin, Director of Oideas Gael and Chairperson of Údarás na Gaeltachta

Community Development and Language Preservation

Dr. Conchúir Ó Giollagáin, Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, OÉG

Gníomh don Ghaeltacht and An Baile Beo regional awards for Galway, Mayo and Co. Meath will be announced and presented.

Prizes will be awarded to winners under the Co-operatives and Community-based section and the Community Organisations section.

Overall Gníomh don Ghaeltacht 2004-2006 Awards will be announced and presented.

These special overall prizes will be awarded to overall winners for the three-year period. These organisations were judged on their progress relating to language and cultural development, local enterprise, social development and services for the elderly, conservation and development of the environment, youth and education. There are two categories in the competition: Community Development and the Preservation of Irish as the Community Language.

A prize fund of €143,000 will be awarded on the night.
