‘An Baile Beo’ – Connacht/Leinster Regional Awards Presented

At an event in the Connemara Coast Hotel, Na Forbacha, Co. Galway, (Wednesday, 13 May), the Baile Beo awards for the Connacht/Leinster region were presented (Galway, Mayo and Meath Gaeltacht areas). The presentations were made by Pádraig Ó hAoláin, Chief Executive of Údarás na Gaeltachta.

Prizes were awarded as follows:

Community Organisations

  • Main Prize – Comharchumann Forbartha Ionad Deirbhile Eachléim € 3,000
  • County Prize – Comhlacht Forbartha an Spidéil € 1,500
  • County Prize – Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla € 1,500
  • County Prize – Comharchumann Ráth Chairn Teo. € 1,500

Voluntary Committees

  • Main Prize – Coiste Pobail Tuar Mhic Éadaigh € 3,000
  • Recognition Award – Coiste Pobail Ros Muc € 1,500

The aim of An Baile Beo is to enrich and promote the Irish language in the Gaeltacht so that it is not alone heard in Gaeltacht towns but also visible to visitors and tourists, demonstrating the uniqueness of the area.

Údarás na Gaeltachta in association with Galway, Mayo and Meath County Councils fund the Baile Beo Awards Scheme. These awards give recognition to committees which develop and reinforce language and cultural initiatives in their areas.
