Údarás na Gaeltachta welcomes the new strategy for the seafood industry announced by the Taoiseach and the Minister for Communication, Marine and Natural Resources yesterday.
A substantial budget of €334m has been announced for the strategy for the six-year period to 2013 as well as €40m for Research and Development, co-financed by Enterprise Ireland and Údarás na Gaeltachta. This new strategy brings both opportunities and challenges to the aquaculture industry and seafood processing in the Gaeltacht and an tÚdarás is prepared to join forces with Bord Iascaigh Mhara, Enterprise Ireland and other representatives from the aquaculture, processing and shellfish industry in the Gaeltacht so that the utmost advantage may be derived from this new strategy.
