At a meeting of the Board of Údarás na Gaeltachta held in Halla le Chéile in Clochán Bhréanainn today (2 May) two coastal fishing schemes were approved.
A lobster v-notching pilot scheme was also approved for the implementation of a lobster awareness scheme on the Gaeltacht islands. The lobster v-notching scheme is based on a v-notching scheme proposed by Board member Cathy Ní Ghoill for the Gaeltacht islands at a recent Údarás Board meeting. A grant of 50% (each) will be available for scheme participants. It was also agreed, in association with BIM, to jointly fund the implementation of a coastal fishing awareness scheme. This scheme focuses on good management of coastal fishing and collating and providing scientific, environmental and economic data for Údarás and BIM.
The Údarás Board informed Comharchumann Forbartha an Leith Trúigh that an application for outline planning would be submitted to Kerry County Council in the next two weeks for the development of a Business Park in Clochán comprising of community facilities, a 4-5 unit enterprise facility and office/technology space. In the first phase, permission will initially be sought for the development of office/technology space.
