Údarás na Gaeltachta has welcomed the opportunity to meet the delegates from the Joint Oireachtas Committee for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish-speaking Community during their visit to the Donegal Gaeltacht this week.. The delegation will meet with Language Planning Officers during their visit – they will also visit some of Údarás na Gaeltachta’s client companies in Donegal, as well as meeting with young people from the Gaeltacht ag Conradh na Gaeilge’s Ardfheis naÓg.

Údarás na Gaeltachta Chief Executive, Tomás Ó Síocháin commented:

“We are very happy that the delegation from the Joint Committee is coming to the Donegal Gaeltacht and that they will get an insight into the vital work being done by Údarás na Gaeltachta here. We are very proud of the positive impact the companies which the Joint Committee members will visit – Randox Teo, ProAmpac and Drioglann Chroithlí – have on employment and the economy in the Donegal Gaeltacht. Furthermore, we believe these client companies understand the importance of the Irish language in the development work of Údarás na Gaeltachta, and the responsibility of Gaeltacht companies to participate in our efforts to strengthen and nurture the language.”

“The meeting the Committee members will have with Language Planning Officers is of great importance. The work being done by the Language Planning Officers is invaluable and we recognise their dedication in ensuring that the Irish language is at the heart of the economic, social and cultural life of the Gaeltacht, in Donegal and throughout the country. Údarás na Gaeltachta fully supports them in their efforts.”
