The Seaweed Centre

This development is only the first phase of an ambitious tourism plan prepared by Comhar Chuigéal Teo to develop the area as a tourist destination for visitors travelling to the west of Ireland. The centre will provide information on all aspects about seaweed the “Seaweed Experience” and other services provider include tourist information, education, shopping and use a “Café”. They will see seaweed preparation for cosmetic treatments; have an opportunity to go on a guided seaweed tour along the shore or they will be able to experience seaweed footbaths. They will be able to buy seaweed products and enjoy items from the menu with a seaweed theme in the cafe.

The centre will be a “haven of tranquillity” centre, with a warm quiet atmosphere, soft music, soft lighting and dramatic piece of art inspired from seaweed.

The Chief Government Whip and Minister of State for Irish, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, Sean Kyne, TD visited the Centre of Seaweed in Leitir Mealláin, where he met with Cllr County Padraig Joe Joe Mac An Iomaire, Manager of Comhar Chuigéil, Eilín Peircín, and the Seaweed Centre Administrator Patrick Mac Diarmada.
