Freudenberg Medical’s Spiddal operations specialize in the design, development and manufacturing of critical metal-based medical device technologies for minimally invasive catheters. The company is a trusted partner to leading medical device companies across the globe with a reputation for innovation, service and the highest quality standards.
Founded as Cambus Medical, the company entered a joint venture partnership with Freudenberg Medical in 2012, and in 2023 fully transitioned into Freudenberg Medical.
Freudenberg Medical in Ireland employs over 1,000 people, shipping over 16 million complex minimally invasive catheters each year from its combined 200,000 sq ft operations in Spiddal, Co. Galway and Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim.
There are close to 300 people currently employed by Freudenberg Medical in Spiddal, working in engineering, R&D, manufacturing operations, quality, and support service roles.
Údarás provided a production facility, and as the company expanded across several phases extra space and grant aid was provided based on the company’s needs at that time.
In 2023, with the support of An tÚdarás, the company officially opened a newly expanded facility, increasing its current manufacturing footprint by 50%. The company also announced its intention to increase its workforce by over 25%, adding 100 new jobs.
The Spiddal facility represents a total investment of over €2 million by Údarás na Gaeltachta.
