Údarás na Gaeltachta welcomes the announcement by Westire Technology Limited (WESTIRE) in Béal an Mhuirthead, Co Mayo that it has entered into a joint venture with the UK based company, Charles Endirect Limited (CEL) to manage WESTIRE’s international sales, marketing and distribution needs.
In recent months, and under the management of local man Sean Noone, WESTIRE acquired both the manufacturing facility and the photocell street lighting technologies from the SELC Group. Sean Noone has over 33 years-experience in the provision of photocell street lighting technologies supplying Utilities, Lighting Luminaire OEM’s and Municipalities through-out Europe, North America, Canada & South Africa, and is the founder of WESTIRE.

As part of the joint venture agreement, WESTIRE will develop and manufacture all its products exclusively for a new Irish joint venture company, which will be known as Charles Endirect Ireland Limited. This company will also be based in Béal an Mhuirthead.

Steve Ó Cúláin, CEO of Údarás na Gaeltachta, said “This joint venture will be instrumental in protecting WESTIRE’s current workforce of 45 employees. I highly commend Sean Noone and his team for the extensive work he has done in the past year to ensure that the photocell street lighting technologies manufacturing facility remains and continues in Beál an Mhuirthead and ensuring that the current jobs are protected into the future. Údarás will continue to work in partnership with WESTIRE in its efforts to grow and expand the business further in the years to come.”

Managing Director of WESTIRE Sean Noone said, “Positive work has been on-going by Westire Technology Limited for some time, developing a new route forward for the products into the International Outdoor Lighting Market. Now, with this large and experienced sales team in place, the company is very confident that WESTIRE’s sales will grow steadily and increase in the months and years to come. This Joint Venture would not have been possible without the support of all our employees, management, representatives from Charles Endirect Limited, and shareholders Jerome McDonnel, WESTIRE Operations Director, and the Board and representatives of Údarás na Gaeltachta. A very special “THANKS” to the Gaeltacht community of Iorrais, as without their encouragement and support this would not be possible.”
