Údarás na Gaeltachta board meeting in Gaoth Dobhair – June 2012

At an Údarás na Gaeltachta Board meeting in Gaoth Dobhair, Co. Donegal today (1st June), a number of new projects were approved throughout the Gaeltacht which will lead to the creation of 54 new additional jobs when developments are complete.

In addition, the Board of Údarás na Gaeltacht approved:

  • funding of €350,000 for Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo to enable the company to continue its arts development programme in the Gaeltacht in partnership with The Arts Council over the next year;
  • capital expenditure of €145,000 for necessary renovation works necessary to ‘An Marglann’ (the Mart), an Údarás-owned building in Gleann Cholm Cille, for the purposes of providing arts, cultural and sporting activities;
  • funding of €150,000 for Muintearas Teo to assist the company in the implementation of its education and training programme.

The Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs, Dinny McGinley, T.D., met with members of the Údarás Board and a number of issues of common interest were discussed, including, the 20 Year Strategy for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht Bill which is currently being prepared, the structure and election of the next Údarás Board, the role and functions of Údarás na Gaeltachta, funding for co-operatives and community organisations and the LEADER programme in the Gaeltacht.

The Minister of State, Dinny McGinley, T.D., the Chairman of Údarás na Gaeltachta, Liam Ó Cuinneagáin and members of the Board congratulated Steve Ó Cúláin who officially commenced his duties as Chief Executive of Údarás na Gaeltachta today.
