Representatives from Údarás na Gaeltachta recently attended the Laurentic Forum in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, participating in important discussions on economic and social development in coastal and island regions

The Laurentic Forum served as a valuable platform for discussing challenges and opportunities related to sustainable development in coastal communities. The forum aimed to create connections between various coastal communities and identify opportunities for collaboration.

Méadhbh Seoighe, Tourism Manager at Údarás na Gaeltachta who attended the forum, said:

“The Laurentic Forum was an excellent opportunity for us to share our experience regarding sustainable development in coastal Gaeltacht areas and on the islands. We heard about innovative approaches from other regions and identified several collaboration opportunities that could benefit our Gaeltacht communities. In particular, the discussion on language preservation in coastal areas was very relevant to us, and we look forward to continuing this collaboration in the future.”

Among the topics discussed at the forum were:

  • Sustainable development in coastal communities
