Údarás Enterprise Competition for Secondary Schools

At an event held in Óstán na Páirce, An Spidéal, yesterday Wednesday, 2nd of April, 2008, Pádraig Ó hAoláin, Chief Executive of Údarás na Gaeltachta presented winners of the Enterprise Competition for Schools 2007 – Western Region, with their awards. The winners were:

1st Prize: Coláiste Chroí Mhuire, An Spidéal €1,000
Project: Táirgí CCM (Christmas cards & calendars)

2nd Prize: Coláiste Cholm Cille, Indreabhán €500
Project: Cutlery Pouches

3rd Prize: Gairmscoil Éinne, Inis Mór €250
Project: Maisiúchán Árann (Candle Holders)

This is an enterprise competition directed at secondary level schools in the Gaeltacht with the aim of creating the spirit of enterprise amongst students whilst learning from the process at the same time.

In order to participate, students must set up a business, compile a comprehensive business plan, run the business, write a business report and present their business display.

Special emphasis is placed on innovation, the connection with the area, the operation of the business and the standard of the exhibition.

Twelve groups from seven schools participated in the Western Region.
