Údarás na Gaeltachta is pleased to announce that the Social Enterprise Enablers Program, in collaboration with the Social Enterprise Academy, is concluding today at the Údarás offices in Na Forbacha. This program brought together 12 social entrepreneurs from five European countries, including three from the Gaeltacht, for a week full of learning and knowledge exchange.

The meeting took place from October 14-18, 2024, and provided a unique opportunity for participants to share their experience and expertise, and learn from each other about the challenges and opportunities associated with social entrepreneurship in rural and island areas.

Among the participants from Ireland were:

  1. Roseann Ní Ghallachóir from Rosann CTR in Donegal, which provides support services for families.
  2. Caroline Ní Nualláin from Comharchumann Forbartha Mhúscraí in Cork, which focuses on community development and Irish language preservation.
  3. Eileen Davis from the Gaeltacht Migration and Diaspora Memorial Centre.

A spokesperson for Údarás na Gaeltachta said: “We are delighted that this program has been so successful in our offices in Na Forbacha. It is an important step towards fostering and developing social entrepreneurship in our Gaeltacht communities. We are very grateful to the Social Enterprise Academy for providing this innovative program, which gave our entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn from best practices across Europe.”

International participants included representatives from museums, publishers, artist collaborative spaces, and sustainable tourism initiatives from Iceland, Norway, Finland, and Sweden.

The aim of this program was to create a strong network of social enterprise enablers who will be able to support the development of new projects in their own communities, and create a connection between rural communities across Europe. As it concludes today in Na Forbacha, participants are leaving with new knowledge, skills, and connections that will assist them in their future work.
