International collaboration advances renewable energy research in Kerry Gaeltacht
An Daingean, Co. Kerry
Údarás na Gaeltachta welcomed distinguished international partners from the SAtComm project to its offices in Baile an Mhuileann, Dingle, for an inspection of cutting-edge solar energy monitoring equipment recently installed at the facility.
Ricardo Luis Guerrero Lemus from the University of La Laguna in Tenerife and Niall Grant from the Walton Institute in Waterford visited the Údarás offices to examine the newly installed SkyImager system, an innovative piece of technology manufactured by Energyris.
The SkyImager represents a significant advancement in solar energy assessment technology, designed to support preliminary evaluations of sky conditions for electricity generation through photovoltaic panels. This sophisticated equipment enables precise monitoring and forecasting of solar energy potential, contributing to more efficient renewable energy planning.
The installation forms part of the SAtComm project, with the Údarás na Gaeltachta building in Baile an Mhuileann serving as a pilot site for the innovative system. Local electrical contractor Hutch Electrical of Dingle completed the professional installation of the equipment.
“We are delighted to host our international partners and showcase this innovative technology that positions the Gaeltacht at the forefront of renewable energy research,” said Fionnán Ó hOgáin, Bainisteoir Tograí Eorpacha for Údarás na Gaeltachta. “This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to sustainable development and technological innovation in the region.”
The SAtComm project represents a significant investment in renewable energy research and development, bringing together academic institutions and industry partners from across Europe to advance solar energy technology and applications.
The visit underscores the growing importance of international collaboration in addressing climate change and advancing sustainable energy solutions, while highlighting the Gaeltacht’s role as a hub for innovative research and development.
