Official Opening of Ionad Cultúrtha an Phiarsaigh, Conamara
The opening today (Thursday, 10 November) by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, T.D. of Ionad Cultúrtha an Phiarsaigh, Conamara at Pearse’s Cottage is a historic day for the community of Ros Muc and Conamara.
Anna Ní Ghallachair, Chairperson of Údarás na Gaeltachta said, “Údarás na Gaeltachta is proud to have been involved with this project from the beginning, we have played a central role the development of the new visitor centre in association with the community of Ros Muc and the community of Conamara. This visitor centre celebrates the cultural wealth of the Gaeltacht, the heritage of the region and the beautiful landscape of Conamara. The Irish language is celebrated as a contemporary and vibrant language through the exhibitions. These aspects, along with Patrick Pearse’s vision for Irish culture, are explored through the eyes of Pearse. It is fitting that this official opening takes place on Pearse’s birthday and this new visitor centre will add to his legacy.”
Chief Executive of Údarás na Gaeltachta, Steve Ó Cúláin said, “Ionad Cultúrtha an Phiarsaigh is one of the eight Permanent Reminders, a series of major capital projects developed as part of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme. Údarás are delighted to have played a significant part in this historic commemoration. This Centre will be a valuable gem in attracting more visitors to the region. It creates a new standard of interpretation that will set a benchmark for the appreciation and understanding of our Irish culture, our history and our language. The Centre and its facilities will enhance the existing visitor experience at Pearse’s Cottage , a national monument, and will be an attractive destination for visitors for many years to come.”

Údarás na Gaeltachta and the Office of Public Works would also like to announce a special event for the public in Ionad Cultúrtha an Phiarsaigh, Conamara on Friday, 11 November to celebrate the opening of the new visitor centre. Public admission is free on the day to view the new Centre and its exhibits. Refreshments will be provided along with music and entertainment from midday to 3pm. All are welcome.
