Today, Thomas Byrne, T.D., Minister of State for the Gaeltacht, officially opened two new digital hubs in County Meath – gteic Baile Ghib and gteic Ráth Cairn. These centres are part of the national gteic network, which provides modern workspaces for remote work and startups in the Gaeltacht.
Speaking at the event, Minister of State Byrne said:
“The opening of these gteic centres is an important step forward for the Meath Gaeltacht community. They will provide new opportunities for local people to work remotely or establish their own businesses, while staying in their native community. This will support economic development and the preservation of the Irish language in the area.”
The new facilities include meeting rooms, collaborative spaces, and high-speed broadband connections.
The Minister of State concluded: “This project is an excellent example of how the Government is investing in the future of the Gaeltacht. I congratulate everyone involved in establishing these centres and wish all those who will use them in the years ahead every success.”
Cllr Sharon Tolan, Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council, said:
“These innovative centres demonstrate our commitment to economic development and the preservation of the Irish language in our Gaeltacht communities.”
Rónán Mac Con Iomaire, Director of Regional Development, Community & Language Planning at Údarás na Gaeltachta, welcomed the opening of the new centres, saying:
“The opening of these gteic centres in Baile Ghib and Rath Cairn demonstrates Údarás na Gaeltachta’s ongoing commitment to the sustainable development of Gaeltacht communities. These centres will boost innovation and entrepreneurship in the area, fostering a new generation of Gaeltacht businesses and entrepreneurs.”
