At a Board meeting of Údarás na Gaeltachta in Na Forbacha, Co. Galway today (4 March) funding of €535,000 was approved for Comhar Naíonraí na Gaeltachta to support the implementation of its programme of activities for 2016. Comhar Naíonraí na Gaeltachta Teo. provide a wide range of Irish language childcare services, from crèche services to afterschool services, breakfast clubs for parents and workshops for parents and their children. Over 1,170 children attend preschool services and around 200 children participate in afterschool services. The company employs five fulltime staff and more than 140 part-time.
The Board also approved funding of €605,000 to Muintearas Teoranta to carry out its programme for the year. Muintearas Teo. delivers a series of educational and training courses for various groups throughout the Gaeltacht, and it deals with preschool and youth services, Irish language activities including language assistants, and community services. Muintearas Teo. employs 18 fulltime and 13 part-time staff, and 85 seasonal/temporary workers.
