The chairperson of Údarás na Gaeltachta Liam Ó Cuinneagáin and Chief Executive of Údarás na Gaeltachta Pádraig Ó hAoláin presented the overall awards for Gníomh don Ghaeltacht 2004 – 2006 in Óstán na Páirce, An Spidéal last night (December 7th 2006).
These prestigious prizes were awarded to the overall winners for their work in community development over the past three years. Community groups were evaluated on progress regarding language and cultural development, local enterprise, social development and care of the elderly, preservation and development of the environment, youth and education services. There were two categories, Community Development and Language Development.
The 1st prize of €20,000 in the Community Development Category was awarded to Comharchumann Forbartha Árann Teo. The 2nd prize of €10,000 was awarded to Forbairt na Dromada Teo. and the 3rd prize of €5,000 was awarded to Comharchumann Chléire Teo.
In the Language Development category the 1st prize of €15,000 was awarded to Comharchumann Ráth Chairn Teo., the 2nd prize of €10,000 to Comharchuman Forbartha Ghaoth Dobhair and the 3rd prize of €3,000 each was jointly awarded to Comharchumann Forbartha Chorca Dhuibhne and Comharchumann Shailearna Teo.
