Údarás na Gaeltachta is happy to announce that the Glasoiliúint Scheme is now open for applications from the 1st of October to the 31st of October.

Glasoiliúint is a training support scheme focused on craftspeople and professionals based in the Gaeltacht that wish to further develop their skills in the sustainable energy industry. Applicants will have the chance to further their own skills or to move into the industry if they wish.

The scheme will further develop the skills of those above who wish to undertake courses to transition into the sustainable energy industry as part of their work.

A grant of €2,000 will be made available at a rate of 75% towards fees and travel expenses (if relevant) under the ‘de minimis’ rule for craftspeople and professionals in the Gaeltacht.

Only part-time courses will be accepted to avail of the scheme. These courses must be recognised courses, focused on career development courses, skills improvement and the development of new skills. The scheme will not be available for fulltime courses. It is up to the applicant to find relevant, recognised courses that are in line with their craft / profession.

There are many job opportunities in the sustainable energy industry, with high demand for electrical, plumbing, engineering, architectural, installation, building and roofing skills. Significant investments are being made in wind turbines off the coast and the demand for solar panels, electric boilers and heat pumps is on the rise.

“This scheme gives people the opportunity to upskill in the field of sustainable energy, while furthering their skills as part of ongoing professional development. There is a wide variety of courses suitable for this scheme including Heat Pump Installation, Commissioning, Maintenance & Servicing, courses in Retrofit Insulation Skills and Solar Photovoltaic System Implementation. Anyone who is interested in these courses should definitely apply for the scheme.” – Aisling Nic Aoidh, Education and Training Officer in Údarás na Gaeltachta.
