Funding of €2M for Páirc na Mara marine project welcomed by Údarás na Gaeltachta

Údarás na Gaeltachta has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Heather Humphreys TD today (03/12/2018) that MICD Páirc na Mara, a collaborative project between Údarás na Gaeltachta, NUIG and GMIT will receive funding of €2m to develop a market-focused marine innovation and development centre as part of the Páirc na Mara Marine Innovation Campus in Cill Chiaráin, Co. Galway.

The funding has been granted under the second round of the Regional Enterprise Development Fund delivered through Enterprise Ireland and Údarás na Gaeltachta will also provide equity of €400,000 for the project.

Údarás na Gaeltachta in partnership with NUI, Galway and the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology will develop 1,800 sq. mtrs. of enterprise and incubation space for marine and research enterprises. Specialist training and business development supports will be available from the centre which has a target of supporting the creation of 200 jobs.

Welcoming the announcement, Mícheál Ó hÉanaigh, Chief Executive Officer of Údarás na Gaeltachta said, “This is great news for the marine sector regionally and nationally. This project will significantly add to the development opportunities for innovative marine based enterprises and will also provide opportunities for research development and ways of making the best use of one of the greatest natural resources we have in this country. We are delighted to be working in collaboration with NUIG and GMIT and other partners on this project.”
