The first sod was turned on the site of a new community development in Rann na Feirste by Bríd Anna Ní Bhaoill, Stiúrthóir Chlub Óige Rann na Feirste. The official ceremony was held today (28 April 2008) in Rann na Feirste by Coiste Áislann Rann na Feirste and it is hoped that this €1.4 million development will become a new hub and focus for economic, cultural and social activities in the area.

This new development, Áislann Rann na Feirste, will be two storeys high and the mixed- use building will provide many new facilities to the community such as a community resource room, a nursery and after-school facility and a tea room. It will also incorporate an administration office, two enterprise centres and a heritage room.

This development was funded by An Roinn Gnóthaí Pobail, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta, Údarás na Gaeltachta, The International Fund for Ireland and the local community. The Rúnaí of Coiste Áislann Rann na Feirste, Bríd Ní Dhomhnaill, said that both she and the committee were absolutely delighted to see this development come into fruition and today’s ceremony was the result of the hard work done by the committee combined with the support of the local community. Bríd Ní Dhomhnaill, also thanked all the organisations that assisted with this development, An Roinn Gnóthaí Pobail, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta, Údarás na Gaeltachta and The International Fund for Ireland. Coiste Áislann Rann na Feirste also expressed their gratitude to the local community for their continued support to help raise the local contribution for this development.
