The final meeting of the current Údarás na Gaeltachta Board was held in Na Forbacha, Co. Galway today (20 September).

Projects discussed included:

  • a grant of €100,000 approved to Muintearas Teo for the implementation of its activities between now and year end;
  • the sale of an Údarás owned building on its Industrial Estate in An Cheathrú Rua to Comharchumann Mhic Dara, the local co-operative, for the development of community initiatives in An Cheathrú Rua;
  • the provision of close to €700,000 to companies in the Donegal Gaeltacht under the national Research, Development and Innovation Programme to undertake new planned developments. This programme is being administered in the Gaeltacht by Údarás na Gaeltachta in conjunction with Enterprise Ireland.

The implementation of the Leader Programme in the Gaeltacht was also discussed and the Board expressed its concern regarding the delay surrounding the continuation of the programmes expenditure and administration in the Gaeltacht.

The Chairman and Board members thanked Údarás management, staff and former employees for their commitment and co-operation in the implementation of the organisations activities.

While the Board expressed its disappointment at the decision to terminate the election process to the Board of Údarás, it wished the new Board, which is due to be appointed by the Minister for the Gaeltacht in October, every success.
