Údarás na Gaeltachta is pleased that Forbairt Fhánada has signed a new 20-year lease with the Commissioners of Irish Lights to continue operating and developing Fanad Lighthouse.
The official signing ceremony took place at the lighthouse itself, celebrating the renewal of a successful partnership that has helped establish Fanad as one of the most renowned destinations among Ireland’s Great Lighthouses.
Ray Moore, Chairman of Forbairt Fhánada, announced his deep gratitude to all stakeholders who participated in securing this agreement, particularly the Commissioners of Irish Lights, Údarás na Gaeltachta, Fáilte Éireann, and Donegal County Council.
“We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to continue managing public access to Fanad Lighthouse for both guided tours and overnight accommodation,” said Mr. Moore.
Under the stewardship of Forbairt Fhánada, Fanad Lighthouse has been consistently attracting strong visitor numbers, welcoming thousands of visitors each year. In 2024 alone, more than 355,000 international and domestic visitors were recorded across Ireland’s Great Lighthouses network.
Fanad stands out not only for its stunning location and high-quality visitor experience but also for the sustainable benefits it brings to the local economy, supporting local jobs, businesses, and a vibrant sense of place.
Údarás na Gaeltachta hopes that this successful partnership will continue to contribute to the economic and cultural development of the Gaeltacht, and strengthen Fanad’s status as one of the country’s premier tourism attractions.
