At an event to be held in Óstán na Páirce, An Spidéal on Thursday, 7 May 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Pádraig Ó hAoláin, Chief Executive of Údarás na Gaeltachta will present prizes to the winners of the Enterprise Competition for Gaeltacht Second Level Schools – Western region.

Attempts are being made on a continuous basis by An tÚdarás to encourage the spirit of enterprise amongst students and as a result, this competition is organised on an annual basis.

There are a total of 17 groups from nine second level schools in Galway and Mayo participating in the competition. Each group has to provide a business plan, set up and operate a business, write a report on the fictitious business and participate in the exhibition which is taking place in Óstán na Páirce on Thursday, at which time the winners will be selected. The marking system places emphasis on innovation, association with the area, the operation of the business and the standard of the exhibit.

Three prizes will be awarded, €1,000 for first place and €500 and €250 for second and third place respectively.
