€318,000 awarded by Ealaín na Gaeltachta to 45 Gaeltacht arts projects

Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo. today announced details of those who successfully applied to Scéim Fhorbartha na nEalaíon 2007. (The Scheme for the Development of the Arts 2007).

This funding scheme is aimed at projects which are directed by artists, at artists’ collaborative projects and at arts events in all disciplines of indigenous and contemporary art. €318,000 has been awarded this year to 45 projects throughout the Gaeltacht.

There was a substantial increase of 13.8% in the overall value of the scheme this year from €290,000 to €330,000.

Referring to the scheme, Louis de Paor, Director of Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo. said “This support allows the full benefit of the arts to enrich the cultural, social and economic life of the Gaeltacht. Artists have an important role to play in the life of the Gaeltacht, and certainly the arts of the Gaeltacht have an important role in the artistic life of this country”

There has been a substantial increase in the number of arts projects in the Gaeltacht since the partnership between Údarás na Gaeltachta and the Arts Council was established nine years ago.

“The results of the partnership can be seen again this year in studios, theatres, classrooms and in community halls in the Gaeltacht”, says De Paor.

Amongst the projects for which assistance was granted, there were eight music projects, four literature projects, eleven which involved the visual arts, a dance proposal, six drama projects, 2 inter-disciplinary proposals and 14 arts festivals.
