Donegal Beehives Limited is pleased to announce that they are continuing to develop and strengthen their manufacturing business of beehives and related products for the beekeeping industry.
Located in an Údarás building in an Chaiseal, Gleann Cholm Cille, the company serves beekeepers throughout Ireland, Britain and Europe, particularly through the internet. Along with high-quality beehives, they produce a wide range of products including candles and other wax items.
This is a pioneering company – there is no other producer in Ireland manufacturing beekeeping hives, which means they are filling an important gap in the market. The company is co-directed and co-owned by Thomas Ellis and Áine Curran.
In recent years, the company has diversified its products to provide protective clothing for beekeepers, feeders, bee food, cosmetics made from beeswax, and starter packages for beginners. They now have new customers from the business sector as well as the regular customers who engage in beekeeping as a hobby.
Currently, eleven people work in the company on a full-time basis and six others on a part-time basis. It is expected that the employment level will rise to fifteen people by the end of 2027.
Michael Mac Giolla Easbuig, Regional Manager of Údarás na Gaeltachta in Donegal said:
“We are very pleased to support the development of Donegal Beehives Limited. This innovative company demonstrates the importance of developing high-quality local products in Gaeltacht areas, creating sustainable employment and contributing to the economic and cultural wealth of the area.”
