Údarás na Gaeltachta welcomes the visit of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht, and the Irish-speaking Community to the Uíbh Ráthach Gaeltacht
This afternoon, a delegation from the Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish-speaking Community begin their visit to the Uíbh Ráthach Gaeltacht. During the visit, the Committee Members will be looking at the position, status, and vitality of the Irish language in the area, listening to the concerns of the local community and development organisations, and seeing what assistance the Joint Committee can give the local community.
Tomás Ó Síocháin, Chief Executive of Údarás na Gaeltachta, said:
“It’s wonderful that the delegation from the Joint Committee is spending these two days in the Uíbh Ráthach Gaeltacht. This is a great opportunity to hear the views of the community and to find out about the excellent work being done by various groups in this Gaeltacht area, with the support of Údarás na Gaeltachta. During the visit, the delegation will have the opportunity to visit Údarás na Gaeltachta’s client companies, interact with cultural and community organisations, and speak to the fantastic team implementing the Language Plan here. We hope that the visit will give the Joint Committee an insight into the needs of the community and the language in this area, and that this will be of assistance to us all, as we try to support the strengthening of Gaeltacht communities and the Irish language in those communities.
