The participation of County Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula at The Big E in Springfield, Massachusetts recently was highly successful. Údarás na Gaeltachta played an important role in this exhibition, promoting cultural and economic links between Ireland and Western Massachusetts. The Údarás placed particular emphasis on the importance of the Gaeltacht and the business and investment opportunities available in these areas.

The Mayor of Kerry, Councillor Brendan Fitzgerald, said that he, along with elected representatives from Kerry County Council, Údarás na Gaeltachta, and members of the Irish Consulate in Boston participated in a wide range of cultural, educational, trade and tourism events during The Big E’s opening weekend to promote links with County Kerry.

Dónal Ó Liatháin, Regional Manager of Údarás na Gaeltachta, said:

“The Big E provided an unparalleled platform to showcase the rich cultural heritage and contemporary creativity of Ireland’s Gaeltacht regions, especially the Dingle Peninsula. This event strengthens our ties with the Irish diaspora in Western Massachusetts, while simultaneously promoting our language, crafts and unique businesses to a wider American audience. Údarás na Gaeltachta is proud to support this initiative that connects our communities across the Atlantic.”

Among the businesses and organizations that participated in the exhibition were:

– The Blasket Centre

– Corca Dhuibhne School of Art

– Brian de Staic Jewelry

– Dingle Crystal

– Louis Mulcahy Pottery

– Weavers’ Shop (Lisbeth Mulcahy)

– Dingle Distillery

The event was a great success, strengthening the links between Ireland, especially the Dingle Gaeltacht, and Western Massachusetts. It demonstrated the importance of events like this in promoting our culture, language and businesses internationally, which is a primary objective of Údarás na Gaeltachta.
