On Thursday evening, Comharchumann Ionad Forbartha Ionad Deirbhile will host an information meeting in Áras Inis Gluaire, Béal an Mhuirthead, to update local businesses on the progress being made on the new tourism hub SOLAS and the many opportunities the new facility will create for the local tourist industry.

Údarás na Gaeltachta and Fáilte Ireland executives will attend, as will representatives of the Commissioners for Irish Lights and Comharchumann Forbartha Ionad Deirbhile, who will present an overview of the project to date. There will also be a networking element to the event, and an opportunity for those attending to explore areas of common interest and possible co-operation going forward.

The new hub will open this Summer, and it is expected to be a great asset to the tourism infrastructure of the west, situated on the Wild Atlantic Way in the North Mayo Gaeltacht, an area which is rich in natural tourist attractions.

Seán Ó Coisdealbha, Western Regional Manager for Údarás na Gaeltachta commented:

“We are very happy that SOLAS is approaching completion; it is an extremely important strategic project for the Mayo Gaeltacht and for tourism in the west more generally. SOLAS will weave together many strands of the tourism story of Iorras and North Mayo, including the history and culture of An Fód Dubh and Béal an Mhuirthead and the fascinating story of the lighthouses of the peninsula. We are confident that this hub will be an important social, cultural, and economic asset to the area and to the Gaeltacht.”
