The aim of An Baile Beo is to enrich and promote the Irish language in the Gaeltacht so that it is not alone heard in Gaeltacht towns but also visible to visitors and tourists, demonstrating the uniqueness of the area.
Údarás na Gaeltachta in association with Cork and Waterford County Councils fund the Baile Beo Awards Scheme. These awards give recognition to committees which develop and reinforce language and cultural initiatives in their areas.
