Údarás na Gaeltachta announced today that a further four lead organisations have been selected to prepare Irish language plans for the Language Planning Areas (LPA) that have been designated.
Applications were sought at the beginning of the year from organisations and groups interested in undertaking this work. The following four lead organisations were selected:
• Comharchumann Oileán Árainn Mhór Teo.
LPA – Árainn Mhór, Co. Donegal
• Comharchumann Dhúiche Sheoigheach Teo.
LPA – Dúiche Sheoigheach and Tuar Mhic Éadaigh, Co. Galway and Co. Mayo
• Forbairt Chonamara Láir Teo.
LPA – Conamara Láir, Co. Galway
• Comharchumann Forbartha Mhúscraí Teo.
LPA – Múscraí, Co. Cork
The lead organisations have up to two years to prepare Irish language plans for their LPA. Funding of €25,000 has been granted to Comharchumann Oileán Árainn Mhór Teo. and €35,000 has been granted to the other three lead organisations, towards the cost of preparing the language plans.
There are now 13 lead organisations preparing Irish language plans in cooperation with Údarás and groups within their communities.
Údarás na Gaeltachta, under the Gaeltacht Act 2012, is responsible for the implementation of the language planning process in the Gaeltacht.
The Gaeltacht Act 2012 gives statutory effect to the implementation of the 20 Year Strategy for the Irish Language 2010-2030, where it is stated that ‘under the new Act, a language planning process will be instigated whereby a language plan will be prepared at community level for each Gaeltacht district.’
