LECo or Local Energy Communities is an EU project, which is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Northern Periphery & Arctic (NPA) Programme 2014-2020. The project runs from August 2017 to July 2020 with a budget of €1.9 million.
The project aims to combine new innovative technologies with locally available natural resources to create sustainable Local Energy Communities in rural areas. The objective is that the Local Energy Communities created during the project will be self-sufficient in energy and operate using local renewable resources. The project will also promote the awareness of energy efficiency, renewable energy and energy self-sufficiency.
