The Board of Údarás na Gaeltachta held a meeting in the City Hotel in Derry on Friday 3 November 2006. The following projects were approved at the meeting:
An Inter-Institutional Research and Development Study on Education through the medium of Irish
A research and development grant was approved to allow four third-level institutions working in partnership to study needs of Irish language education regarding resources, staff availability, transferable skills and the provision of skills in the education through Irish. Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, NUIG, Letterkenny Institute of Technology, NUI Maynooth and Trinity College will take part in the study. It is hoped that Science Foundation Ireland and the Higher Education Authority will co-fund the project.
Fuinneamh Glas Teo., Inis Meáin
Due to a technical and financial examination of the desalinisation system on Inis Meáin financial provision was approved for Fuinneamh Glas Teo. to assist with current costs while the study is underway. Discussions will take place with Galway County Council regarding long-term water supply on Inis Meáin, with consideration given to the management of the desalinisation plant.
Somex Ltd., Baile Bhuirne, Co. Chorcaí
A financial package and the provision of a site were approved for Somex Ltd. which is to relocate to Baile Bhuirne from Macroom. This is a company which designs and produces electronic measuring devices for the drinks industry. The company is expanding as a result of a significant increase in demand for the company’s products. This development will take place on one of an tÚdarás’ sites on Eastát Gnó Bhaile Bhuirne, Baile Bhuirne.
It is hoped that the company will employ 9 people when it is fully operational in Baile Bhuirne.

A financial package was approved for Brian de Staic Teo., An Daingean to assist the company in employing and developing new markets.
